I was born in Villanova del Battista, Italy, and grew up in Obereisesheim, Germany. I started studying economics in Freiburg and Konstanz and finished at the London School of Economics in 1990, where I did the MSc in Mathematical Economics and Econometrics. I got my PhD in Economics at Stanford University in June 1994 and moved to Barcelona and started teaching at UPF just afterwards.
